Practical Exercise

  1. Open My Computer
  2. Resize the window to 1/4th or less of the screen.
  3. View as details
  4. Drag the My Computer window to the upper right corner of the desktop.
  5. Open the (C) drive. View as list.
  6. Resize the (C) drive window to 1/4 the size of the screen.
  7. Drag the (C) drive window to the upper right corner of the desktop.
  8. From File create a new folder. Name it your first name.
  9. Open that folder. Resize it to take up less than 1/4th of the screen. View as list.
  10. Close all windows except your folder.
  11. STOP and wait quietly until told to proceed.

  12. From the START button (bottom left on the task bar) open Notepad (or Wordpad. Either is OK). You get an untitled typeable screen.
  13. Type your first and last name. Leave the typeface/font as it is. Nonstandard will slow the printer.
  14. On the next line type "MO 101".
  15. On the next line type "practical exercise".
  16. Under File select Save As and navigate to your folder. Name the file your last name.
  17. Minimize Notepad/Wordpad. View your folder as details. Read the size of your file.
  18. Click Notepad in the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop.
  19. On the next line type the size of your Notepad file (followed by the letter K.
  20. Save (not Save As)
  21. Minimize Notepad.
  22. Stop until told to proceed.

  23. Open My Computer. Resize window. View as details. Read size of (C) drive.
  24. Return to Notepad. Type that figure on the next line. Minimize Notepad.
  25. Select the My Computer window. Select the (C) drive. Right click. Choose Properties.
  26. Read Free space. Enter on next line in Notepad.
  27. Close (C) Properties window.
  28. Select the window titled by your name.
  29. Select your document (titled by your last name)
  30. Under Edit select Copy (ctrl + C)
  31. Within your folder create a new folder named Elvis
  32. Open the Elvis folder then under Edit select Paste (ctrl + P). Wait for the document to appear in Elvis.
  33. Right click your document in Elvis and select Rename.
  34. Type new name as your first and last name
  35. Stop until told to proceed.

  36. Select the file in Elvis called your first and last name. Right click. Select Make Shortcut. A shortcut appears in Elvis.
  37. Drag the shortcut to the desktop.
  38. Close all windows.
  39. Double click the shortcut to your document.
  40. Under File select Print Setup.
  41. Select Portrait. Close window.
  42. Under File select Print…
  43. Select from page 1 to 1. Select 2 copies.
  44. Click Print.
  45. Close Notepad/Wordpad (if you changed something you will be asked to Save. Click Yes.
  46. Navigate from My Computer to your folder. Drag your folder to the trash. (Click Yes.)
  47. Close all windows.
  48. Drag the shortcut to your file to the trash. (Click Yes.)
  49. Open the trash.
  50. Get the teacher’s attention. (He will look then tell you to Empty.)
  51. Close all windows.
  52. While waiting for the printer practice number pad in KeyboardingPro.
