AALRC Remote Control

In case you have never used remote control software, let me explain how it works.  Once you click the Install Remote Control link and install the program, I will be able to see what you see on your computer.  I will have control over your computer just like I was there, even though you can take back control at anytime time.  We can type messages back and forth or we can talk on the phone while we are in session.  You will see the mouse moving around, and I can show you what to do while Im doing it.  Frustrating computer help phone calls should be a thing of the past.

 Brief Setup Instructions - Since our programs are using various versions of Windows with various prompts and messages, we created a brief synopsis of the more detailed instructions below that should help you install it on any system.

1.  Click on the Install Remote Control button.
2.  Save the file to your desktop.
3.  After saving to your desktop, select RUN or OPEN.  If you are not prompted with either of these choices, minimize Internet Explorer and double-click the slave icon on your desktop.
4.  You won't receive a message after it installs, but you may see your screen flash.  You will know that it is installed when after about 10-20 seconds you see the  icon appear in the bottom-right hand corner of your screen by the clock > .  You are now ready for remote control.
5. After installing the remote, contact Rob Pollan by email rob@aalrc.org or call 479-649-5830 to let him know that you are ready for remote control.

 

Install Remote Control  Click this button to install the remote control program to your system.  (Username and password required)

Uninstall Remote Control  Click this button to remove the remote control program from your system.

Install Remote Vista FOR WINDOWS VISTA ONLY - Click this button to install the remote control program to your system.

 

Setup Instructions

1.  Your computer must be connected to the Internet.  Click on the Install Remote Control link.  You will be asked to RUN or SAVE the program.  Select SAVE.

After clicking SAVE, you will be asked where to save it.  SAVE it to your desktop.

2.  After saving the slave.exe file to your desktop, click on RUN.  In Windows 98 and 2000 you will be prompted to OPEN, select OPEN.  If you are not prompted with either of these choices, minimize Internet Explorer and double-click the slave icon on your desktop.

3.  You may see a similar security warning, press RUN.

 

4You won't receive a message after it installs, but you may see your screen flash.  You will know that it is installed when after about 10 seconds you see the  icon appear in the bottom-right hand corner of your screen by the clock > .  You are now ready for remote control.

5. After installing the remote, contact Rob Pollan by email rob@aalrc.org or call 479-649-5830 to let him know that you are ready for remote control.

 

  

FAQ

1.  Is it secure?  The new remote control software does not listen on port numbers.  This means that it cannot be detected or attacked by hackers, since it doesnt accept connections on open ports.

2.  How long will it take to download?  The file is only 100K.  It should only take seconds to download, even on a dial-up connection. 

3.  My Internet Explorer is not working, how can I download the program?  I can email the file to you as an attachment.  Or you can download it to another computer and transfer it with a floppy.

4.  How do I know if we are connected?  You will see this icon in the bottom-right hand corner of your screen (near the clock) when we are not connected, when we are connected the icon will change to .

5.  With the remote installed, can I control whether or not you have access to my computer?  Yes, you can right-click the icon in the bottom-right hand corner of your screen and uncheck Accept Connections.

6.  I followed the directions on the installation, but nothing happened.  You won't receive a message after it installs, but you may see your screen flash.  You will know that it is installed when after about 10 seconds you see the  icon appear in the bottom-right hand corner of your screen by the clock >

7.  What do I do if the installation doesn't work?  Try running the Uninstall program and installing the remote again.

8.  Do I need to uninstall the Remote Control program after we're finished?  No, you don't need to because we can uninstall it from our end, but the link is there if you want to uninstall it yourself.

9.  How do I uninstall the Remote Control program?  Click on the Uninstall Remote Control button above, when prompted select RUN.  You should see the message "RA Successfully Removed From Your System."
